Biography

Padmashree Dr. V.R. Panchamukhi is a distinguished economist and Sanskrit scholar, renowned for his contributions to both fields. As a former Chairman of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and Chancellor of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati, he has bridged traditional Indian knowledge with modern academia. His work spans international trade policy, game theory, and Sanskrit literature, making significant impacts globally and within India. Dr. Panchamukhi has served as a consultant to UN bodies like UNCTAD, UNDP, and ILO, as well as the World Bank, IMF, G-77, and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

• Managing Editor, Indian Economic Journal, Indian Economic Association
• Convener, VIII World Economic Congress, New Delhi (1986)
• Founder Director General, Research and Information System for the Non-Aligned & Developing Countries (now RIS for Developing Countries)
• Pioneered application of game theory to international trade policy analysis with Jagdish Bhagwati and T. N. Srinivasan
• Authored analytical paper on the Multilateral Agreement on Investment for WTO Ministerial Meetings in the 1990s
• Authored multiple books in Sanskrit on economics and management, and composed numerous Sanskrit poems
• Initiated Sanskrit–Science exhibitions, Sansk-Net, and digitization of Sanskrit manuscripts at Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha
• Established the Department of Dvaita Vedanta at Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha
• Delivered lectures on the Bhagavad Gita’s principles, broadcast by SVBC TV
