✈️ Vaimanika Shastra and Its Yantras

Ancient technology and modern circuits representing Vaimanika Shastra research

NIVS has taken up research of Vaimanik shastra and its Yantras under IKS and DST schemes. Vaimanika Shastra is an ancient Sanskrit text attributed to the sage Maharishi Bharadwaja. This book outlines detailed concepts of aeronautics and vimaanas from Ancient India.

The manuscript was brought to modern attention in the early 20th century by Subbaraya Shastry. The text is composed in sutra format and elaborated with commentary by later authors such as Subbaraya Shastry, who is believed to have received it through yogic revelation.

The Vaimanika Shastra discusses not only the design and construction of aircraft but also touches upon advanced topics such as pilot training, clothing suitable for pilots, and even aerial warfare techniques. It mentions four types of vimaanasβ€”Shakuna, Rukma, Sundara, and Tripuraβ€”each with unique features and purposes.

Through this project we are working on the translation and interpretation of Sanskrit text, finding its working principle from the interpretation which will also satisfy the laws of modern science, making a CAD model and analyse it aerodynamically and through hand calculations and if possible with small experimental set up which will provide proper validation for analytical solution and computational analysis.

πŸ“œ Digitization of Rare Manuscripts (Hasta-Prati)

Digital preservation of ancient manuscripts and modern technology

Preserving our cultural heritage, NIVS has initiated a major project to digitize ancient hand-written palm-leaf and paper manuscripts. These Hasta-Pratis are rare treasures documenting centuries of Vedic thought and practice.

This project ensures protection and restoration of Indic knowledge for future generations through advanced digitization techniques and scholarly preservation methods.

πŸ“š Preservation Objectives

  • Digital archival of ancient manuscripts
  • Restoration of damaged texts
  • Scholarly accessibility enhancement
  • Cultural knowledge preservation
  • Research facilitation for future studies
